Working with Shadow Domains™

Phantom pages are web pages offering highly optimized content intended for search engine spiders only. They are cloaked, meaning that only search engine spiders will see them, whereas human visitors are presented with ordinary web pages.

Shadow Domains™ are dedicated web properties focused on offering optimized content to search engines while redirecting human visitors to another site, typically a company's Core Domain (or: “main domain”).

Thus, technically speaking, Shadow Domains are web sites consisting entirely of cloaked pages not intended for human perusal.
Glossary

Cloaking/IP Delivery = process whereby different content will be displayed to search engine spiders and to human visitors
Phantom Page = cloaked page. These are ordinary static HTML pages that derive their name from the fact that they are not intended for human perusal. They are intendend for search engine spiders only who will crawl them. By contrast, human visitors will be redirected in realtime to your main or Core Domain.
SE = search engine
SERP = search engine results page
Shadow Domain™ = dedicated web site presenting content to search engine spiders only
Core Domain = regular web site (main domain) intended for human visitors

Starting Out: Search Phrase Selection

Your starting point is a List of Targeted Keywords/Search Phrases. This is utilized in a multi-step process to create phantom pages optimized for these keywords/search phrases, embedded in a topically relevant semantic environment.

These pages are pure “spider fodder” as they will only ever be viewed by search engine spiders. That is why the text they feature is not required to make “sense” to a human reader. In fact, they may – and probably will – look like total gibberish!

However, as the fantomas shadowMaker™ generates only semantic text components (“words”) which relate to the targeted search phrases, the pages will look highly relevant to any machine reading and indexing them – which is exactly what a search engine spider does.

Once these pages are ranked well in the search engines, visitors following the SERPs (Search Engines Results Pages) by clicking on your links will be redirected via the Shadow Domain™ to your primary or Core Domain.
Keyword Tips

Please take the utmost care when compiling your list of targeted keywords and search phrases as it is quite fundamental to the whole process of creating your Shadow Domain™ and generating highly optimized phantom pages and, hence, your search engine rankings!

Make sure to include:

Multiple-Word Phrases e.g. “cheap widgets online” – as research indicates, almost 80% of all searches are conducted by entering two terms or more. It is also much easier to achieve good rankings for phrases rather than single keywords, especially in a highly competitive environment.
Plural Forms e.g. “widgets” and “Widgets”.
Spelling Variations e.g. “color” and “colour”.
Common Misspellings e.g. “receive” and “recieve” – to catch all that extra search engine traffic.

Step 1: Search Terms and Landing Pages

In Step 1 you will define the search terms you want to target as well as the Landing Pages your human visitors shall be redirected to.

Typically, your visitors will arrive at your Shadow Domain™ by clicking a pertinent link in a search engine's result page. Depending on the keywords or search phrases entered, visitors will be redirected from your Shadow Domain™ to predefined pages on your Core Domain. This is done at server level in realtime – your visitors won't have to click on any additional link to be forwarded. Neither will they experience any noticeable delays in the process.

Hence, you can define which target URL or Landing Page should be assigned to which keyword/search phrase.
Generic Landing Page

The assignation of individual Landing Pages in Step 1 is optional.

Should you decide to skip it, human visitors will be redirected by default from the Shadow Domain™ to the default URL on your Core Domain, e.g. the index page.
